Steam Carpet Cleaning in Texas – Is It the Answer to Your Allergy Problems at Home?

As with anything in the home or office, carpets need cleaning every once in awhile. Carpet Cleaning in Killeen, TX involves more then just a vacuuming, but actual wet and dry cleaning. Having your carpets cleaned two or three times a year by professional carpet cleaning services in Killeen Texas will help preserve the look of your carpets for years and years to come.

Carpets are essential to the look of a room in your house or in the office. Carpets are made from natural or synthetic material, the former being wool and the latter being nylon. Wool carpets are more expensive mostly because it is a natural material while synthetic carpets wear well and are typically more stain resistant. There are definitely differences in the types of carpeting that you see in a home versus an office. The office carpeting is usually a lot flatter where the pile is short while in residential homes the carpet is fuller with piles generally higher.

Routine vacuuming helps keep your carpeting clean by removing dust and dirt from the top layers; however, grime, germs, allergens, and other contaminants get trapped deep in the carpet where your vacuum can't reach. Over time these pollutants accumulate, and they can even make you and your family sick! That's why it's important to have your carpets deep cleaned annually. Killeen Carpet cleaning removes both surface dirt and deeply embedded dirt for a total clean-meaning fresh-looking, healthy carpets! But carpet cleaning isn't a job for amateurs: to get your carpets and rugs completely clean without causing damage requires knowledge, training, and specialized tools.

Leave your carpet cleaning jobs to the professionals and you'll get beautiful, expert results!

The concern with most do-it-yourself carpet cleanings is how clean you're really getting the carpet. Without specialized carpet cleaning equipment and products, homeowners simply aren't able to remove the grime trapped within their carpeting-and if you can't get it all the way clean, what's the point! Most professional carpet cleaning companies in Texas utilizes truck-mounted hot water extraction to thoroughly cleanse your carpets. With a combination of pressurized hot water, eco-friendly cleaning agents, and rapid extraction, these machines can eliminate practically all of the contaminants embedded in your carpeting.

Your Killeen Carpet Cleaners can even apply a stain protection treatment to keep your carpets pristine longer.

And, because the hot water extraction system applies the cleansers and then quickly extracts them out, your carpet is left clean and only a little damp. This is crucial because over saturating your carpeting dramatically increases drying time; if your carpet stays wet too long it can begin to mold and mildew, creating new health problems! While amateur carpet cleaning jobs can take days to dry, a professionally cleaned carpet is usually dry in under 12 hours.

Carpet in a home should be cleaned every 12 to 18 months. Choosing the proper cleaning system is very important. Some systems may leave residues which accelerate re-soiling and defeats the whole purpose of cleaning. Several methods of cleaning carpet are explained below:

BONNET CLEANING

Bonnet cleaning uses a buffer with a bonnet on the end to clean your carpet. Cleaning solution is sprayed onto the carpet and then the bonnet is rotated across the floor using the buffer. The bonnet will begin to get soiled as it moves across the carpet. This means that it is beginning to remove dirt from the carpet. Once the bonnet is thoroughly soiled, a new bonnet is used. After the cleaning, the carpet should be vacuumed once the carpet is dry. Drying time is usually 30 minutes to an hour. This method cleans carpet fairly well, but will leave a residue behind, since the cleaning solution is not completely removed.

FOAM CLEANING

With foam cleaning, shampoo is released onto a brush that is worked into the fibers of the carpet. After the foam is applied, the area is vacuumed to remove the dirt.

This method can be used as part of an ongoing maintenance program in between steam cleanings. Since some of the shampoo is not completely removed with vacuuming, some of it remains in the carpet. This residue will attract dirt and must be removed by hot water extraction.

DRY METHODS

With dry carpet cleaning systems, a powder solvent is sprinkled on the carpet. Then, a counter rotating brush is used to work the powder into the carpet. The final step is to vacuum the powder and the accumulated dirt out of the carpet. With dry cleaning there is no drying time since water is not used in the cleaning. This method will leave a powder residue that will eventually begin to attract dirt and soil. If this method is used, you should also have your carpet steam cleaned periodically to remove any residue.

STEAM CLEANING

Research indicates that the steam cleaning method provides the safest and most thorough carpet cleaning. The process consists of applying a cleaning solution to the carpet and using hot water to extract the used solution and soil. The best way to have this method done is from a truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and wand brought inside.

One of the largest carpet manufacturers, Shaw, requires that homeowners periodically have there carpet cleaned by hot water extraction (steam cleaning), using equipment that is certified under the Carpet and Rug Institute's Seal of Approval.

Of all the cleaning methods described, hot water extraction will provide the most thorough carpet cleaning and is the safest for your carpet. If you choose to use one of the other methods, it is suggested that you have your carpet steam cleaned periodically to remove any residue left by the other types of cleaning.

Some may not realize it, but there is more than one way available for your carpet cleaner to clean your carpets. Essentially, you have a "wet cleaning" method or a "dry cleaning" method. Many people would like to know the difference between the two. While the main difference is that obviously one involves more water than the other, there is a little more involved than that. (It should be noted that before starting either method, the carpet should be vacuumed first. This make the cleaning process easier.)

Wet Cleaning The first method we'll take a look at is the wet method. Wet methods of cleaning, as the name suggest, use the most amount of water in the cleaning process. There are two main types - shampooing and steam cleaning.

With the shampooing method, you literally shampoo the carpet. The cleaning machine covers the fibers with a shampoo foam. This process stirs up the dirt and stains. When the dirt is stirred up, it becomes trapped inside the shampoo. After the carpet has dried, it can vacuumed clean. The dirt and stains, which had previously been attached to the carpet fibers, are cleaned away with the dried shampoo solution.

Steam cleaning can also be classified as a wet cleaning method. With steam cleaning, your cleaner sprays a mixture of hot water and detergent on the carpet. This loosens the dirt. A specialized vacuum is then brought in to suck the water from the carpet.

Dry Cleaning With the dry method of cleaning, a moist powder is spread over the carpet and then massaged into the fibers with a special machine. The powder consists mostly of detergent, a dissolving solvent, and an absorbent. It also contains a slight amount of water, enough to make it moist. The special makeup of the powder allows it to act as powerful cleaning agent. After the powder is spread across the carpet, it is vacuumed clean.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Each Dry cleaning is considered a "surface clean." In other words, it doesn't clean as deeply as a wet clean does. The advantage of this method is that it's faster. With a wet cleaning, you may need to wait anywhere from 12 to 24 hours for the solution to dry. And so that is also the potential downside - it does take a little longer. The advantage, as mentioned, is that it's more forceful and more thorough, and so the wait is often worth it.

Typical Cleaning Process Most professional cleaners would use something similar to the following process outlined below. First they survey the area to be cleaned to understand the layout of the area and the type of dirt and stains they will be dealing with.

Next they vacuum the area to remove as much "easy" dirt as possible.

After vacuuming, they pre-condition the carpet with a specialized cleaning solution. This emulsifies the suspended dirt and biomaterials.

Next they agitate the areas that receive the most amount of foot traffic. This serves to loosen the compacted dirt.

After agitation, they rinse the cleaning solutions applied in Step 3. This leaves the carpet fibers residue free. If there are stubborn stain spots, they then treat these areas with specialized stain removers. If necessary, these areas are left to "dwell" for a time so that the spot removers can really do their work. When the proper amount of time has passed, the removal solutions are rinsed from the carpet.

Once the carpet has been completely cleaned and all the stains have been removed, they normally apply something along the lines of Dupont's Teflon Advanced Fiber Protectant for carpets. Although this last step is optional, many recommend it.
